Walking Through the Door of Opportunity

It’s Five Minute Friday time with Kate and the sweet girls over here.  We link up and write on the same word prompt.  No over-thinking… just free writing for 5 minutes.  Our word prompt for today is DOOR, which is pretty funny because before I knew what it was I practically wrote this post through a response to a friend just moments before the prompt popped up. So todays prompt was easy and it was pretty much a cut and paste from a comment I just wrote… thanks, Anita, my comment friend!

GO

There have been many times I’ve had to stare fear down and walk forward in courage. It’s not always easy and I still find myself fighting through it.

Last year, my one word focus was COURAGE choosing to go forward when my own self-talk wants to hold back. It’s choosing Courage and stepping out of the security of my own plan to follow His.

And this year my focus is TRUST relying on the integrity, strength and ability of the One who knows the way.

In other words, I’m trusting God and I’m walk forwarding despite the fear that grabs at my ankles wanting to trip me up and keep me planted where I am.

I’m trusting that as God opens the door, or even just places me in front of the door, that I will have courage to take ahold of the door knob and open it wide.

I have often been held back by my own fear of the “what if’s…”

  • What if I fail?
  • What if I do it wrong?
  • What if it doesn’t work?

This is where the trust comes in.

Trusting if He directed my steps to that door, it is my sign of trust in Him to go through the door and walk in with confidence believing He is directing my steps.

The Lord makes firm the steps of the ones who delight in Him;  though we may stumble, we will not fall, for the Lord upholds us with His hand. (Psalm 37:23-24)

As He gives the opportunities, I am choosing to open the door and walk in. I’m going to keep trucking forward despite my fear of failing or not getting it right every time.

I’m still trusting.

Trusting Him and letting Him figure out where this whole thing will lead.

It’s not my job to figure it out. Even though I love the details and I like to know where I’m going. I’m thinking if we obey and trust Him, He’ll work out the details.

That’s what I’m going with! Anyone with me???

  1. Rachel, oh how many times I’ve played the what if game? I need to take your courage, take my one word for this year “brave”, trust God and walk through the door. God does work out the details doesn’t he?

    • I am learning that still day by day. And when the fear creeps in sometimes it’s a full on battle but I keep trusting and leaning into Him and believing He knows the way! Thanks for stopping by!

  2. I’m with you Rachel! I’m a “what if” person too. I really like your definition of trust – relying on the integrity, strength and ability of the One who knows the way. I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how Jesus is my way. He shows me the way, and He is the way. It takes the pressure off of us when we trust that God’s the one closing and opening doors! #fmfparty

  3. I love the reminder that if we obey He will work out the details. I am such a ‘what-if’ person that many time it causes me to just stand staring at the door and never checking to see if it is unlocked. Thanks for the reminder that He has a plan for us.

    • Oh yes Amy, we are very similar in that way. I stand at the door thinking, “Should I? or Shouldn’t I?” and God says, “I brought you here, do you trust me?” I’m definitely a work in progress! Thank you for coming along! 🙂 Happy Friday to you!

  4. I’m always blessed by what you share 🙂 Love the comment that He has a plan and will work out the details. I can get stuck worrying about the details. My word for the year is THROUGH. He’s walking with me through everything as well as I have to go through the door He’s opened for me even though I don’t know exactly what’s on the other side. I need to practice your word – trust – and step on through.

    • That’s right! We don’t always know the details. And I’m like you… I like to know what I’m getting into and where we are going and that is where trust comes. I guess we are walking this road of trust and going through together! Glad to have you on the journey! 🙂

  5. Yes, Rachel, I’m RIGHT there with you. I keep asking myself, why is it so hard for me to trust my loving Father, who tells me that He only has plans to bless me. It doesn’t even make sense that He would ever ask me or lead me to something that He won’t help me ultimately succeed at and bring glory to His name.

    • Amen, sister! 🙂 That’s what I remind myself of when that fear is creeping in… He has the best for me. His plans are for good and not for evil. We are all learning together to trust Him! Happy May Day! 🙂

I needed this today. I’m having a particularly anxious spell at the moment and got really upset over something really small and ultimately meaningless at work yesterday. God impressed upon me that sometimes it’s not the mistakes that matter, but rather what I do with them. Will I get up, dust off and move on?

Your words encourage me to do just that!

    • I’m so glad this was an encouragement to you! I’m right there with you about the whole thing of when I make mistakes to keep getting back up and moving on. We can’t let our mistakes or failures keep us down but we learn and move on! Thanks for sharing! Praying for you, my friend, that God’s peace will be with you this week!

  7. I would LOVE for God to give clear directions. Unfortunately He’d rather me trust Him to put all the details in place.

Fearless was my word last year. One thing I learned is that fear is always going to be there, but I had to learn to walk forward regardless. Sounds like you learned the same thing :).
