Tripping Over Typeset

I’m watching as the birds fly one by one into my garden and get busy. They’re all gathering sticks, leaves and hay stubble for their nests.

Last fall, we dumped all our leaves into the garden and now it’s like a giant IKEA store for birds. I’m thinking they’ve shared this information with their friends because I have quite a few flying into this new location. (You know the best kind of advertising is word of mouth and customer satisfaction!)

Matt had his birthday party a few weeks ago and there was some leftover blue silly string lying around in the yard.

While Dave and Matt were mowing, they spotted some of that bright blue string in a robins nest. I think that bird must be smiling pretty with that electric blue woven in and through the hay stubble and broken sticks.

As I sat and watched the phenomena of this supply and demand shopping in my garden I thought about our own supply and how our needs are met.

Look at the birds of the air, they do not sow or reap or store away in barns and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? ~ Matthew 6:26 (NIV)

We associate this verse with material possessions and needs of finances. Yet we have so many more needs than just finances.

What about our need for wisdom? Our need for direction? Or our need for peace? The list can go on and on and the answer will always be the same… He knows your need and He knows the best provision for that need.

Trust God from the bottom of your heart; don’t try to figure out everything on your own. Listen for God’s voice in everything you do, everywhere you go; He’s the one who will keep you on track. ~ Proverbs 3:5-6 (MSG)

When we need wisdom, direction, peace or anything else, we can ask Him and He will provide.

Yet sometimes there is more to it than asking. We also must seek and go after the supply He provides.

It might be nice if God was a genie in a bottle where we could ask and the answer would just appear.

Sometimes God answers that way… we ask and the miracle happens instantly but I have found that to be the exception and not the usual. 

Instead He says…

 “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.” ~ Matthew 7:7-8 (NIV)

We must trust, listen and act on our belief by moving in the direction He is leading. He supplies and we act in faith.

The birds scouring around my garden are seeing their needs met. They have found a place of provision. They come, seek, hunt and peck for what they need.  And they fly away with their need met.  They have found again and again that where He supplies, their need is met.

When we come to the place of His provision…. His Word, His Spirit, and even His People….we find our need met.

He is not one to go back on His promises.  He is always faithful and true to His Word.

You are His child and He will never leave you abandoned or without provision. He will always supply.

It might not always be in the way we would like or expect but His provision always comes.

If we choose to notice… we will even see His surprising beauty woven in and through the midst of our broken sticks and stubble of hay.  Look for His  surprising supply, He will not let you down.
