Friday has finally rolled around again and the weekend is here! Today we link up with Kate and all our friends over at 5 Minute Friday. Kate gives us the word prompt, we free-write for 5 minutes and link-up together to share our words. We’d love to have you join us! Click here for all the details. Our word prompt today is: DANCE
GO
My family loves to rip up the dance floor. I’m a little shy in public but our kitchen floor gets a good wipe down on any random night of the week. We’ve got our own Dancing Queen along with her back-up support side-kicks. More than once we’ve all been dragged into the dance with video filming evidence for blackmail and graduation look-back videos. Oh, pay back is sweet!
Sometimes our lives can seem like a dance and not always a great partnership in who’s going to take the lead.
The professionals seem to move gracefully and eloquently across the dance floor with seemingly little effort. Yet in observation, we see that one is leading and the other is following alongside to complete a beautiful dance of cooperation.
More than dancing across my kitchen floor, I am sometimes dancing with my will versus my emotions and each fights the other for the lead role.
When my emotions take the lead…
- I feel annoyed… my patience is short
- I feel angry… I lash out in quick cutting words
- I feel frustrated… I grumble and complain
Yet when I allow His will to take the lead, the dance takes on a grace I can’t perform on my own.
- I feel annoyed… I choose patience
- I feel angry… I choose love
- I feel frustrated… I choose thankfulness
Following His lead helps us overcome difficulties. We step in grace instead of tripping over our own poorly placed steps.
“Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you. Follow God’s example…walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us.” ~ Ephesians 4:31 – 5:1-2(NIV)
Each day, we have a choice in who will lead the dance. Let us choose to walk in love, follow His example and His lead. He’s a great dance partner. Let’s lean into Him, trust His lead and dance the dance of grace.
STOP
Happy Friday everyone! Have a great weekend.
I choose to Dance with the best Leader and Instructor — my Father! You are so right — it is a choice and we have no right to choose anything other than focusing our eyes on Him and submitting to His lead 🙂 #fmfparty

THIS: “Yet when I allow His will to take the lead, the dance takes on a grace I can’t perform on my own!” Oh and the videos for blackmail made me smile…too funny. I think we all fight the dance between our will and our emotions. I’m parked in the 6 spot.

Rachel, I LOVED this. I have prayed for years not to be led by my emotions. I loved how you pointed out we react in emotion, or we choose with our will. And I love the dancing on the kitchen floor. We still do that, usually to the beats of TobyMac. 🙂 Great post today!

Love this illustration, Rachel! I could just see you and your family breaking it down. 😉 I am the same way- very shy public dancer but will do it in the privacy of our home. All too often I am led by my emotions but I am slowly becoming better at recognizing his voice. Have a fantastic weekend. 🙂

I agree. His dance leads to a grace I cannot perform on my own.
