Have you ever had uncertainty and nagging questions pounding in your head with no real answer in sight? I have.
- Where do we go from here?
- Where will the help come from?
- Are we going to make it through this?
- Will we really be better on the other side of this?
These questions circled through my head and I couldn’t see any clear-cut answer.
Maybe a few days away would clear our heads, bring a new perspective and rest our weary bodies.
We drove down the highway with music jamming through the speakers.
My feet rested on the dash and I gazed out the window.
The scenery blurred together as the sun began to set. My gaze moved in closer and my eyes fell on the words printed across the side door mirror, “Objects in mirror are closer than they appear.”
My eyes and thoughts rested on those words.
“Whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it — not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it— they will be blessed in what they do.” ~ James 1:25
The answer is closer than it appears.
My initial gaze at my looming task list was carrying me to the far edges and I was overwhelmed. My to-do list and mounting job assignments were overriding the knowledge of the Truth right in front of me.
The answer of what I really needed was closer than it appeared.
Freedom comes when we go back to the basics.
The basics of His plan, His purpose and His doing.
- Stay on point and remember His words spoken in the quiet places of prayer.
- Keep believing and moving forward… that’s when the blessing comes.
We can’t always see the clear direction.
We don’t always have the complete answer.
Sometimes He simply asks us to take the next step in faith.
- We trust His direction without knowing the final destination.
- We trust the answer will come when the answer is needed.
His Presence is closer than it sometimes appears.
- The blessing comes in remaining faithful.
- The blessing comes in continuing with His plan.
If you are in a place of questioning, a place of uncertainty and you’re not sure where or when the answer is coming…
- Hold tight.
- Continue being faithful.
- Continue doing the right thing.
- Continue in His direction.
The answer is closer than it appears.
My dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Do not let anything move you. Always give yourselves completely to the work of the Lord. Because you belong to the Lord, you know that your work is not worthless. ~ 1 Corinthians 15:58

So often it seems like I am trying to find that answer and it isn’t there, but as you reminded me, the answer is often closer than it appears. Oh how true are those words. Thanks for a great post.

Beautiful words! God’s presence may be closer than it appears. I love the car mirror analogy and the verse from James. Your words have left me thinking what this looks like for me when my focus gets pulled away by life rather than directed by God. Blessings!

God is so good. This was EXACTLY what I needed to read this morning. It’s so hard when I don’t know where to turn and I have to remember that sometimes it’s OK to just keep going until God shows me something different.
