It’s Friday and the weekend! Time for chatting with our friends over at Kate’s place and Five Minute Friday. (Kate gives the word prompt and we write for Five, linking up over here.) Join us if you’d like! Our word prompt today: QUIET
GO:
I wake up to a fully scheduled day and a flat tire.
The phone rang and the message conveyed adds another item to my list.
My patience is slipping away and irritation is taking its place.
My coffee and quiet time didn’t happen and I feel the effects of not having either.
Some days begin in a frenzy.
In our mind, our plan for the day plays out differently but demands of the day begin to push us around.
This is where our fight for what we need takes place.
We can’t rewind the morning but we can realign our direction.
Setting aside my irritation and the noise in the kitchen, I stand at the sink and close my eyes. Quieting my thoughts I whisper a prayer…
“God, you see my day… You know how it’s begun and how it will end. Help me find my strength, joy and peace in You. I place my focus not on the issues but on You. You, God, are the sustainer of my strength and the peace I need for these moments. I look to You. Align my day and lead me gently…. Amen.”
The day’s demands are still pounding but my heart is quiet and my mind is clear.
I pour my coffee and turn toward the day.
It’s a new direction and He’s leading the way.
Happy Friday, everyone! Have a great weekend!
Re-align our direction and our heart will be quiet. I think I’ve just found out how to get in touch with the quietness in me. Thank you!

Ah, thank you for the reminder that when I don’t have my quiet time (which happens rarely), that I can choose to realign myself at whatever point I realize I’m careening off track! Have a great weekend (with lots of quiet time 😉 ).

Love that prayer Rachel. I hate it when the day begins to crowd in before the vitals (coffee/tea and quiet time) have had a chance.
I read another blog this morning that spoke of lingering in Psalm 23. This prompted a few thoughts and a quiet lingering as I closed my eyes and walked in green meadows and peaceful streams, followed by an overwhelming gratitude that my cup overflows with blessings.

Yes, I’m sharing a message on Sunday about Psalm 23. It’s a good place to begin the day!

It is so hard when we wake up to the unexpected like a flat tire that throws our schedule off whack. Yet God does indeed lead us in a new direction. I’m thankful for the start of a new day when the previous day was filled with frenzy. I’m over in the #7 spot this week.

Happy Friday to you Rachel. I love this: We can’t rewind our day, but we can realign our direction. I need to remember this. Also had a day that started out badly this week! 🙂 Realigning myself now.

Rachel, I’ve HAD those days. I’m so sorry you had one recently too. I love how you were able to turn around and pray. Sometimes that’s what we need most is to realign our hearts and minds with Jesus.
I hope your weekend is better!

So encouraging, Rachel! Thank you. I needed this especially, “We can’t rewind the morning but we can realign our direction.” Instead of feeling guilty on those frenzy-start days, all I need to do is realign my direction. So freeing! Hope your weekend is a blessed one!

I love your prayer. I may have to write that one down for the many days I feel frazzled from the get-go.
