To See What You Have – Five Minute Friday

Five Minute FridayIt’s that time again to join up with Lisa Jo Baker for her Five Minute Friday. This is when a group of bloggers get together and write on one word for 5 minutes. No editing or over thinking just the simple discipline of writing for 5 minutes and seeing what comes about. If you’d like to join us, click here! Our word for this week is: SEE

Go…

Waking to a list of “To-Do’s” tires me before I leave my bed.

I see the toys scattered on the floor.

I see dirty dishes filling the sink and I sink lower against the weight of the day.

I see Your Word waiting and calling me to come and rest.

I place the thought aside as I begin the coffee brewing.

  • “I need my coffee first.”
  • “I’ll start the wash while I’m waiting…”

I scurry through the morning without taking in what is really needed.

Then Your Word is seen again through the shuffling of things here and there…seen through the cleaning up and putting away.

It’s in the cleaning up, my eyes fall upon the one thing that will clean up this harried, crazy life.

I see Your Word again and this time, I slow this crazy down, settle my mind and see what you have for me.

Are you tired? Worn out?…Come to me.  Get away with me and you’ll recover your life.  I’ll show you how to take a real rest.  Walk with me and work with me–watch how I do it.  Learn the unforced rhythms of grace.  I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you.  Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.  ~ Matthew 11:28-30 (The Message)

  1. Wow… were you in my house today? It is so easy to focus on that to-do list, and I know trying to read anything before my coffee is pointless, but what a difference it makes when we take the time.
