Monday is here whether I’m ready or not

On some Mondays, I would really love one more day of the weekend. One more day to catch up on life. One more day to relax and regroup before another week of work and school hits again.

But whether I’m ready or not… Monday still comes. The work week begins whether I’m ready for it or not. And sometimes that 2nd cup of coffee isn’t enough of a boost to get me through.

So what do we do when Monday comes and we’re not ready for it?

What do we do when the pile of dishes is still sprawled across the kitchen counter because the fairy godmother’s magical mice didn’t come and clean up the mess of this little Cinderella?

The mess is still here and this week’s schedule is still screaming at me.

But instead of focusing on the list of what to do, I first look at what He’s done for me.

I place my focus on Him instead of on my circumstances.

I focus on the new mercies for each morning instead of the monotony of the work week.

I look to His Word filled with promises before I look to the full agenda of the day.

My circumstances haven’t changed.

I will still have to face the dishes piled across the counter and the dog matted carpet in the living room.

I still have to meet the demands of the full scheduled week.

The difference is where I choose to place my focus and set my thoughts.

I don’t know all the details this week holds for us but I do know He goes before us. He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.

We each will face circumstances this day… this week… that we did not see coming. Yet the One who goes before us knows each moment coming our way and we can run this week’s race well when we fix our eyes on Jesus.

Monday is here whether we are ready or not.

Instead of facing it with dread, let’s face it with our focus set on Him.

The Lord makes firm the steps of the one who delights in Him; though we may stumble, we will not fall, for the Lord upholds us with His hand. ~Psalm 37:23-24
