My Monday mornings are pretty much the same. It’s a picking up from the weekend. Hanging up coats, clearing the shoes and putting away all that’s been left lying around.
In the school room, we turn the schedule to a brand-new week and the chalkboard is wiped clear of all last week’s work.
It’s a new day with a new week and an empty slate.
This day before us is not etched in stone’s history and all of its moments are not yet written.
Today we begin again.
Today we choose.
- How will I allow my attitude to shape my moments?
- How will I show love?
- How will I respond when things not so lovely come my way?
Each day is riddled with choices and it’s in our choosing that our moments are etched out.
We can choose to look at our mounting pile before us and sigh in frustration at what is ahead ~or~ we can take one task at a time and say, “You and me, God… we got this together. Let’s forge on ahead.”
“I remember my affliction and my wandering, the bitterness and the gall.
I well remember them, and my souls is downcast within me.
Yet this I call to mind and therefore I have hope:
Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail.
They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. I say to myself, “The Lord is my portion; therefore I will wait for Him” ~ Lamentations 3:19:24
Our days do not need to consume us and our lists need not swallow our hope.
Instead let us move on ahead into this week knowing and remembering that He is the One who sustains and equips. He is the One that provides.
Steps to a new beginning:
- Lay down the burdens of yesterday, forgive offenses and let go of hurtful words spoken.
- Start fresh with God’s Word, pick up His promises and trust His provision.
- Move forward, knowing He is with you in every thing you face this day.
It’s a new week with new promise and new opportunities.
Let’s keep our focus on Him and move ahead with our hearts filled with hope.

I love this – someone who doesn’t treat Monday like it’s the least favorite child in a week of children! Gladdens my heart!

I envy you, Rachel. No fresh starts here. It’s just the siege, and there’s no way out.

I love new beginnings–maybe that’s why I love early mornings :). Thank you for the reminder that he grants us fresh mercies for each day (no leftovers for us).
