Our word prompt today: PLAY
GO
Having a play day in the middle of the week throws off the schedule. I’m a day behind or a day ahead and I’m not really sure which it is. I just know I’m off schedule this week. Are you feeling it, too?
Last Saturday we joined some friends for their annual July 4th barbecue. This is always filled with great friends, lots of kids and loads of food…. really yummy food.
This year was no different. Except this year the rain came and we huddled in the garage until the first kid stepped out and began puddle jumping and running through the rain. Then the mayhem began… toddlers, kids, teens, adults… all playing through the rain!
I was immediately taken back in my mind to my own childhood when we stood on our large front porch racing through the rain from the front steps to the curb and back again. We’d run to the corner, splash in the gutters and wave at cars as they honked us out-of-the-way.
Every rain storm, every filling of the rain gutters brought out “those Green kids” splashing through the gushes of rain.
This last Saturday I was torn with running into the rain or staying dry inside. Honestly, if I had been at my own home, I would have been out there in lightening speed… but the mental note to myself of the white skirt I was wearing, with no change of clothes or swimsuit in our van kept me dry inside. (Darn it those etiquette rules when you’re with others!)
So today I made a note to self: “Pack swimsuit in emergency vehicle bag!” We never know when the opportunity to play will come our way… and this next time I don’t want to miss it!
A Friday encouragement: Take time to play today!
STOP
Jump into the conversation: How will you “play” this weekend? I’ll go first…. I’m shopping with friends!!
Happy Friday everyone!
I hear you sister! We needed to be prepared to play! Oh sweet rain….we need it so desperately here in ND! I’m in the 5 spot this week.

Rachel, taking time out to play is a GOOD encouragement.
It’s not something I can really do now, because my life has settled into hard routine; the necessities take up all the energy.
However…I dallied outside the other night, and saw a shooting star.
Ha! That’s one for ME!

Dallying outside is definitely a good way of playing and seeing a shooting star is always fun! Glad you were able to get out there! Thanks for stopping by!

First, it’s been awhile since I’ve had the privilege of commenting on your site. Glad to be back!
Second, I have no idea how I will play this weekend. It’s so hot. I hate it. “Play” might look like spreading a blanket out on the living room floor and having a game of checkers.

We let so many wonderful moments in life pass us by, because…..WHAT Will PEOPLE Think?????!!!!! They could be some of the best moments of our lives. But we also do the same thing when God asks us to do something out of our comfort zone….WHAT Will PEOPLE Think????!!!!! and it could be the best blessing of our lives.

That can be true in many cases. We miss out because of our own holding back. Good to know there is grace those times. Thanks for jumping in!

This is why I keep a picnic blanket in the back of my car for the entire spring/summer/fall. We’ve got to take advantage of those opps to play! 🙂
